01 — Challenge
Bringing the world inside
Patients at Craig Hospital face months of intensive rehabilitation, often unable to leave the facility for extended periods. The Craig Hospital Foundation wanted to give patients access to the outside world — not as a distraction, but as a meaningful, therapeutic experience that could support wellbeing during recovery.
The challenge was creating something that felt genuinely transporting rather than merely technological — experiences that would resonate emotionally and provide real moments of escape, joy, and connection to life outside the hospital.
02 — Solution
360 worlds brought to life
Alt Ethos developed a suite of immersive 360 VR experiences for Craig Hospital, capturing environments and moments that patients expressed a desire to visit — mountains, oceans, concerts, outdoor adventures. The experiences were produced with spatial audio to deepen the sense of presence and transportation.
The VR system was designed to be accessible for patients with limited mobility, with simple one-button controls and comfortable headsets that could be used from a wheelchair or hospital bed without staff assistance.
03 — Inside the Work
Designed for healing environments
Every production decision was made with the patient experience in mind. Camera rigs were selected for maximum stability to prevent motion discomfort. Content was carefully graded and mixed to feel warm and natural rather than overstimulating. Duration and pacing were tested with patient feedback to ensure the experiences felt enriching rather than exhausting.
The project also included a live event component at Craig Hospital's Spark Denver fundraising gala, where supporters experienced the VR content firsthand to understand the program's impact.
04 — Outcome
Technology in service of human recovery
The Craig Hospital VR program gave patients access to experiences that would otherwise be beyond reach during their recovery — standing on a mountain summit, sitting beside the ocean, attending a live event. For a patient navigating a profoundly challenging period, these moments carry genuine meaning.
For Alt Ethos, this project demonstrates that immersive technology at its most powerful isn't about spectacle — it's about creating real human value.
